Hundreds of thousands of vaccines will be added to Israel from the existing stock: The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, will instruct the health funds and hospitals to pump 6 vaccine doses from each vial containing the vaccine, instead of 5, as has been the case so far. This will lead to significantly more vaccinated.
In a briefing to the media tonight (Thursday), Prof. Levy said that so far 180,000 people in Israel have been vaccinated since the beginning of the vaccination campaign. For comparison, if at the beginning of the vaccination campaign it was possible to pump six doses of vaccine from each vial – another 36,000 people could be vaccinated this week alone. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clarified last week that up to six vaccine doses can be pumped from each vial, rather than five.
Meanwhile, yesterday the Ministry of Health announced that in order to expand access to the vaccine, Hospitals will also begin vaccinating next week, but those have not yet received the final instructions in this matter. In addition, a notice received by hospitals this week from the Ministry of Health stated that the assessment at this stage is that next week the trays of vaccine packets will be split, instead of the current trays sent to the vaccination points, including the appropriate amount for 975 people.
